DEval invites you to a presentation by Anna Schrimpf, executive director of J-PAL Europe. In her presentation, she will shed light on how randomized impact evaluations can successfully be converted into evidence-based policy-making and how J-PAL envisions to expand their policy impact in the future.

J-PAL:
In 2019, Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo received the nobel prize for their experimental approach to alleviating poverty. In 2003, they (along with Sendhil Mullainathan) founded the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), a global research center with the aim of reducing poverty. J-PAL advocates for more rigorous impact evaluations to ensure that policy is informed by scientific evidence. DEval is happy to welcome Anna Schrimpf, executive director of J-PAL Europe for a public presentation at DEval.

Dr. Anna Schrimpf is the Executive Director of J-PAL Europe. Anchored by a network of 181 affiliated professors at universities around the world, J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty and promotes a culture of evidence-informed policymaking around the world. J-PAL Europe, the European hub of the J-PAL network, is based the Paris School of Economics. In her capacity as Executive Director, Anna provides strategic, technical, and operational direction to J-PAL’s research, policy, and training engagements across Europe –covering both domestic social policies and development topics– and represents J-PAL towards external audiences such as implementing organizations, policymakers, and foundations. Before joining J-PAL Europe in September 2018, Anna led the development of MIT’s MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Development Policy as Associate Director of Education at J-PAL Global, Cambridge (US). Anna is also active in research herself, and currently a Co-Principal Investigator on a large childhood immunization study in Haryana, India. She has supported the work of several NGOs, think tanks, and government agencies in the U.S. and Europe. She first joined J-PAL/MIT in 2016 as a Post-doctoral Associate to Prof. Esther Duflo after completing her PhD in political science at Princeton University and a BA in philosophy, politics, and economics at the University of Oxford.
