The project
A central obstacle to sustainable development within planetary boundaries is that environmental policies are often considered unfavourable to economic growth. They are, therefore, expected to threaten economic stability. Our project “Policymaking Beyond Growth” aims at building capacities within political and civil society institutions on these alleged growth imperatives and communicate strategies to overcome them.
During the next year we will:
- synthesize and reflect upon knowledge on the necessity of growth for jobs, social security, wellbeing and further growth imperatives & measures to counteract them
- develop an online-webpage for knowledge dissemination
- build capacities within political and civil society institutions for strong advocacy on policy-making beyond growth using our extensive networks to EU institutions
What you will do
You will have the special opportunity to carry out a variety of different and purposeful tasks in cooperation with four other team members:
- Conduct research & develop content for reports, publications and an extensive online-webpage, which make the challenge of becoming growth independent easily accessible
- Concept development & co-organisation of workshops and events with key stakeholders in both EU policy and civil society institutions
- Selection and recruitment of further partners for the dissemination of the project and of participants for the workshops and trainings
Whom we are looking for
Value orientation, sustainability, agility, self-responsibility and flat hierarchies are among the core principles guiding our work. Therefore, we are looking for people who share these values and who want to make a difference. Your profile:
- Master’s degree in economics, political science, political economy or comparable
- Familiarity with post-growth economics, sustainable development, growth theory and related topics
- Knowledge of strategic communication and stakeholder engagement
- Fluency in written and spoken English and preferably German. Native English speakers are highly welcome to apply!
- Above-average skills in writing target group-specific and journalistic texts
- Ability to make complex topics easily accessible
- Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and online collaboration Tools (Google Docs and Sheets)
- Very good communication skills
- Independent but cooperative working style
Furthermore, it would be great if you bring some of the following competencies (although they are not a requirement):
- Basic knowledge of formal and informal policy-making processes at EU level
- Knowledge of participative and co-creative processes, such as design thinking
- Experience in the development of training and educational materials and programs
- Contacts to European policy networks
Conditions
The weekly workload is 20 hours. The position will be filled for a duration of 12 months, starting as soon as possible. We wish for a regular presence in Bonn, preferably three days a week. We pay a salary of yearly EUR 22.000 gross. Depending on the success of other proposals, the scope and size of the position may increase over the duration of the project period. If the follow-up proposal is successful, an extension beyond the project deadline may be possible.
