We are very happy to share with you that last week the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development conducted 5 trainings simultaneously across the world. Pursuing its goal of making knowledge on sustainable development accessible to diverse audiences within and beyond the UN system, the Knowledge Centre’s team successfully delivered learning and training on different aspects of sustainable development in Germany, Guinea Bissau, Morocco, Algeria and online, all in one week!

UN Women and UNSSC launch new interactive video on Women’s Access to Justice

UN Women and the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development have jointly developed an interactive video on Women’s Access to Justice. This new video provides an introduction to key concepts around women’s access to justice from the perspective of family law. It discusses why focusing on women’s access to justice is essential in order to achieve sustainable development, and explores the various means to address the barriers which prevent women from accessing justice. The explainer video is followed by an interactive map that illustrates successful initiatives undertaken by UN Women in countries around the globe. Read more | Watch it now

 

Join our free upcoming webinar on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) on the SD Talks Special Series on Climate Action – Register now!

The Paris Climate Change Agreement set the goals, and now countries must translate them into action. The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) set out what each country plans to do as part of the Paris Agreement to contribute to the international effort to secure a sustainable future for all.

Join us for the second session of our 7-episode webinar series on Climate Action. This webinar will explain how the NDCs open up a new universe of opportunities for economic cooperation and partnership to realize mitigation and adaptation plans and increase climate resilience. Organised by the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in partnership with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the webinar will feature Claudio Forner, team lead of mitigation at UNFCCC and Koko Warner, manager of the UNFCCC impacts, vulnerability and risks subprogramme. Sailing the ship of storytelling across an ocean of data – Read the article by Paul Gallagher

In this article, Paul Gallagher, one of the trainers of the Communicating as One on Sustainable Development course organised by the UNSSC Knowledge Centre from 16 to 18 May 2017 in Bonn, talks about the biggest challenge facing the UN in communicating the SDGs in its 193 member countries – to not just provide comprehensive data but also to tell the story behind the data. Measurements for Effective Results-Based Management

5 Jun – 14 Jul 2017 (6 weeks) | Online | For UN staff only

Delivered in partnership with the ROI Institute (USA), this six-week online course enables effective RBM in UN system organizations by enhancing staff competencies in designing, monitoring and evaluating projects and programs. It will enable participants to enhance their skills in data retrieval and analysis, reporting results, and using data to manage performance. This course is open to UN and UN-affiliated staff involved in project and programme management, results-based management officers, and monitoring and evaluation specialists. More info

 

Leveraging Big Data for Sustainable Development

27 Jun – 29 Jun 2017 (3 days) | Nairobi, Kenya

This course will enable you to learn how to make the Big Data revolution people-centered i.e. help shape the emerging Big Data ecosystem in ways that foster social progress and citizen empowerment across the globe, especially of poor and vulnerable communities. More info

 

UN Country Programming in the Context of the Agenda 2030

4 Jul – 7 Jul 2017 (4 days) | Bonn, Germany | For UN staff only

Designed in close cooperation with the UN Development Operations Coordination Office (UN DOCO), this 4-day training explores effective and innovative approaches to country programming. It equips UN staff with enhanced knowledge of UN programming tools and instruments, in order to more effectively support national efforts in the implementation of Agenda 2030. More info

 

Results-Based Management for Sustainable Development

11 Jul – 14 Jul 2017 (4 days) | Turin, Italy | For UN staff only

A comprehensive 4-day training programme that will equip UN staff with the knowledge and skills to apply results-based management (RBM) principles in supporting UN programming processes in the context of the new requirements of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, calling for more integrated approaches. UN Summer Academy

21 Aug – 25 Aug 2017 (5 days) | Bonn, Germany

The UN Summer Academy 2017 is titled “Localizing the 2030 Agenda”. The Academy, which has been organized by the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) every year since 2012, prides itself on offering executive education, learning and knowledge exchange. It is intended for practitioners, policy makers and researchers working on furthering the core notions of sustainable development, as well as those actively engaged with the UN system in their daily lives. The 2017 edition of the Summer Academy will focus on ways to implement the 2030 Agenda at national, regional and local level, examining the particular role of cities and local authorities in the process. Participants will have ample opportunities to listen to renowned speakers, engage in workshops and interactive sessions and network among each other. Highlights of the Academy include an excursion and other exciting opportunities to discover Bonn and its region from a sustainability perspective. More info and Registration
