We are pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of the Transformative Action Award. Cities, regions and civil society organisations are invited to submit their applications.
The Transformative Action Award rewards ongoing or concluded innovative local and regional initiatives that achieve a socio-cultural, socio-economic and technological transformation of societies by using the pathways identified in the Basque Declaration. Actions should address one or more of the Declaration’s 10 agendas: decarbonisation, urban mobility, biodiversity, greenfield land and natural space, water resources and air quality, climate change, public space, housing, social inclusion and integration, and local economies and employment.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for transformative actions with a high level of innovation, for example in terms of social innovation and civic economy, that inspire others to replicate the action elsewhere in Europe. Actions are preferably part of a local strategy or vision rather than standalone.
Transformative actions combine various pathways and address one or more agendas of the Basque Declaration. They should achieve a comprehensive transformation with a positive local or regional impact.
Why should you submit your Transformative Action?
The Transformative Action Award is a great opportunity to be recognised as a leader of sustainable urban transformation in Europe. The award will provide the local or regional authority or civil society organisation with enhanced visibility to inspire others to replicate the activities elsewhere. The award winner will obtain the following prize:
- A promotional video;
- Showcase on the Sustainable Cities Platform, www.sustainablecities.eu;
- Promotion through ICLEI Europe’s website (www.iclei-europe.org), e-newsletter, social media channels and press contacts;
- A trophy and the right to use ‘Transformative Action of the year 2017’ for promotional purposes;
- Digital ‘Transformative Action of the year 2017’ icon for use on websites, social media accounts, etc;
Free entry and a presentation at the next European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns, expected to take place in 2019.
What is the timeline?
Applications can be submitted until 19 June 2017. The jury will then assess all the entries and the short-listed candidates will be contacted in September 2017. The Transformative Action Award Ceremony will take place in October 2017.
