09.06.2016 | University of Bonn: Urban Gardening – Edible Cities (Case study Andernach)

Ringvorlesung

When: 09.06.2016; 17:00 – 18:30 ( Thursday)

Where: Institut für Geodäsie und Geoinformation, Nussallee 1 53115 Bonn

Referent/in: Dr. Lutz Kosack, University of Bonn

Content

The city of Andernach is planning to develop into a vivid and multiform, green and sustainable city. The campaign ‘Edible City’ mostly focuses on aspects of sustainability, biodiversity and urban agriculture. Beside an attractive design of the city’s green areas, the concept should due to its multi-functional character fulfill ecological, economic and esthetic functions at the same time. A new idea would be to use at least parts of the public green areas in a different way. ‘Arable crops’ will more quickly turn them into exciting areas for the citizens. These arable crops could be vegetables or culinary herbs. Instead of “Keep off!” one would suddenly read “Feel free to pick!”, and with that a totally new way of perception of public greens develops.

Organiser: ARTS (Agricultural Sciences and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics)
