The Gawharshad Institute of Higher Education was founded in 2010 by Right Livelihood Award Laureate Sima Samar, who is one of the most prominent human rights activists in the world. Presently she is chairing the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission. The vision of the institute is to provide quality education to underprivileged segments of society, especially to female students.
Lokayan, meaning ‘Dialogue of the people’, started in 1980 as a forum for interaction between activists and concerned intellectuals. It aims at the consolidation of democracy and ensuring equity and people’s control over natural resources, women’s empowerment, cultural plurality, health and well-being for all. It is considered as a legendary thought experiment, which has inalterably transformed social science in India.
The event will be held in English.
