08.05.2014 | Bonn University: Building resilience through translocality. Climate change, migration and social resilience of rural communities in Thailand (TransRe)

Invitation to Public Research Project Presentation

The Environment, Migration, Resilience research group from the Department for Geography at the University of Bonn invites you to the public presentation of a newly established research project at the University of Bonn: Building resilience through translocality. Climate change, migration and social resilience of rural communities in Thailand (TransRe)

Date: 8 May 2014

Time: 2 p.m. (1 hour event)

Venue: Poppelsdorfer Schloss (Stucksaal), Meckenheimer Allee 169, Bonn

TransRe is a BMBF sponsored group of young researchers who seek a fresh perspective on the relationship between environmental change and migration. They examine the potential of migration as climate change adaptation. The gap between science, practice and policy has long been a major concern in the realm of development research, capacity building, and development cooperation. This is also the case in the field of migration and climate change adaptation. It is time for this to change, and to actively foster the co-production of knowledge and action. The TransRe project intends to aid this process. The aim of this event is to present the TransRe research objectives and to collaborate from the very beginning with scientists, NGOs, practitioners and decision makers. Potential pitfalls, new ideas and future cooperation can be discussed during the event where TransRe partners from Thailand will be present as well (Raks Thai/Care, Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, Khon Khaen University, SEA –START Regional Center). TransRe is interested in the needs and desires of organizations and NGOs working on related issues like environmental change adaptation and migration. It considers this event as starting point for several events where the dialogue between science and practice can be facilitated for fruitful outcomes (e.g. co-production of information leaflets, worksheets, exchange of information etc.).
