“40 Years of Germany‘s UN Membership – Germany’s Role in International Climate Politics“

40 years ago, in September 1973, both German nations were granted access to the community of the United Nations. On the occasion of this special anniversary, Bonn’s Museum of Contemporary History will offer a guided tour before the beginning of the UN Talks on Friday, 18 October 2013, starting at 4:30 pm. The UN Talks will highlight the role of the United Nations at the time and today, considering international climate policy as an example and focusing on future challenges. Ms. Christiana Figueres, Head of the UN Climate Secretariat in Bonn, Rolf Stahlhofen, UN Habitat Ambassador and founding member of the band “Söhne Mannheims“, Daniel Cerkasin, representing the young generation as chairman of the Bonn International Model UN, Sönke Kreft, policy officer with Germanwatch, and Rüdiger König, Commissioner for the United Nations and Human Rights at the Foreign Office, will participate in the discussion.
You are cordially invited to attend the UN Talks in Bonn, which will be followed by a reception. Simultaneous translation into German and English respectively will be provided for. Our annual United Nations Day will be celebrated on Bonn’s Market Square in front of the Old Town Hall on Saturday, 19 October, from 11:30 am to 6 pm. Under the theme “8 vs.0 for development – water unites”, there will be information stands, activities for everybody to join in as well as a stage program for the entire family.
