26.08.2013 | DIE: Managing Global Governance (MGG) Lecture "The Role of the BRICS in Global Governance"

The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) would like to invite you to a Managing Global Governance (MGG) Public Lecture that complements the lecture schedule communicated earlier on:

Ambassador H. H. S. Viswanathan (Observer Research Foundation Delhi/BRICS Think Tank Council)
Role of the BRICS in global governance

on 26 August 2013
from 5 to 6.30pm

in the DIE Auditorium, Tulpenfeld 6, 53113 Bonn

The lecture focuses on the role of BRICS in global governance. Are these countries ready to actively promote global policy making in a context of changing global power structures? Do existing international institutions reflect the increasing economic and political weight of BRICS countries, or is there a need for fundamental reforms? What characterizes the triangular relations between BRICS, developing countries and Western industrialised countries?

The DIE would like to discuss these and other questions with Amb. Viswanathan and you – there will be plenty of time for questions and comments from the audience. Johannes Blankenbach, Researcher at the Training Department of DIE, is going to facilitate the session.

The MGG format for young professionals from eight emerging economies is on to the 11th round this year. DIE and GIZ implement it jointly on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ). There will be two more MGG Public Lectures at DIE this summer, and you are more than welcome to attend them:

28 August, 5 to 6.30pm: Scheitert Nachhaltigkeit an der Demokratie? with a keynote by Klaus Wiegandt (Forum für Verantwortung) – in German

19 September, 5 to 6.30pm: The Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-Operation – a model case of inclusive global governance? with a keynote by Brenda Killen (OECD)

The DIE is looking forward to your participation. Please confirm your attendance in advance by sending an e-mail to Sabine.Middecke(AT)die-gdi.de.
