ZEF: Series of public events with "Alternative Nobel Prize" laureates on "Mobilization for Change: Social Movements in a Developing World"

ZEF cordially invites you to a series of public events at ZEF in its function as “Right Livelihood College” Campus Bonn taking place from June 2-10, 2012.

Three “Alternative Nobel Prize” laureates will be our guests during the workshop: Nnimmo Bassey (Nigeria), Prof. Dr. Anwar Fazal (Malaysia), and Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury (Bangladesh).

Mr. Nnimmo Bassey is an environmental and human rights activist who fights against negative ecological and social impacts of oil exploration in the Niger Delta,

Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury is founder of the largest health care NGO in Bangladesh and father of the pro-poor “Bangladesh National Drug Policy”,

and Prof. Dr. Anwar Fazal from Malaysia is founder of nearly a dozen local and global NGOs for consumer rights.

The laureates will meet, discuss and exchange experiences with ZEF staff, guests and PhD students from all over the world during various workshops and public events on the overall topic of:

 “Mobilization for Change: Social Movements in a Developing World”

Monday, June 4, 19:00 hrs: Public Panel Discussion „Mobilization for Change: How Education Can Cultivate Social and Ecological Engagement“. With: Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury (RLA Laureate), Nnimmo Bassey (RLA Laureate), Prof. Dr. Anwar Fazal (RLA Laureate), and Prof. Dr. Marcelo da Veiga (Rector of Alanus University). Moderation: Prof. Dr. Silja Graupe (Alanus University).

Tuesday, June 5, 19:30 hrs: Official opening of the photo exhibition: „Back Seat Heroes –  Alternative Nobel Prize Laureates”. With OB Jürgen Nimptsch (Bonn Lord Mayor), Ole von Uexküll (RLA Foundation Stockholm). Prof. Dr. Anwar Fazal (RLA Laureate), and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wilhelm (LV Rheinland). Exhibition and reception at Museum lobby.

Thursday, June 7, 14-16:00 hrs: International Scientific Theatre „Setting the Stage for Sustainable Consumption“. A theatre play by the MSc Environmental Governance Programme, University of  Freiburg.

Friday, June 8, 16-17:30 hrs: Public talk by Prof. Dr. Anwar Fazal, „Alternative Nobel Prize“ winner, Malaysia. „Mobilization for Change: The Right Livelihood Way”.

About the “Alternative Nobel Prize”:

The “Alternative Nobel Prize”, officially known as Right Livelihood Award (RLA) is granted by the Swedish parliament on an annual basis to persons with an outstanding commitment in peace, environmental or human rights affairs. So far, 140 laureates from 60 different countries have been granted the RLA, which was founded by the Swedish philatelist Jakob von Uexküll.
