SolarWorld AG: Junior Einstein Award 2012. Deadline: June 30, 2012

In 2012, SolarWorld AG will once again be presenting the SolarWorld Junior Einstein Award. The prize is awarded annually to budding researchers within the scope of the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference to honor scientific achievements within the photovoltaic sector. Last year, junior scientist Paul Gundel from Freiburg was awarded the prize in Hamburg for developing new opto-spectroscopic measurement techniques for the field of photovoltaics.

The SolarWorld Junior Einstein Award will be presented for the seventh time in 2012. Young scientists from all over the world, who have produced outstanding work in the field of photovoltaics or in a related field (engineering, system engineering, nanotechnology, crystallography etc.), can compete for this scientific prize. This may have been within the scope of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or a diploma or doctoral thesis.

For Paul Gundel, having his work acknowledged with the Junior Einstein Award in 2011 was the highlight of his still rather brief scientific career: “This award is a big motivation for me for my future career path. I still look back fondly on the award ceremony and the spectacular celebration afterwards. The very experience of standing on a stage with Larry Hagman is unforgettable and reason enough to have competed for the Junior Einstein Award“, comments Paul Gundel.

The deadline for applications is June 30, 2012. By awarding the SolarWorld Junior Einstein Award, SolarWorld AG would like to awaken young people’s interest in the solar sector and to promote innovative ideas for using solar energy.

Apart from the SolarWorld Junior Einstein Award, SolarWorld will also be awarding the SolarWorld Einstein Award this year to honor scientific, political and social engagement in solar power. With the SolarWorld Einstein Award, aviation pioneer Dr. Bertrand Piccard and his Solar Impulse team were honored for their vision of flying around the world in 2014, powered only by the sun.

Both awards will be presented within the scope of the 27th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference in Frankfurt/Main on September 25, 2012, in front of a distinguished international audience.
