30.05.2010 | EED: For the Sake of the Earth and the People” – An evening event organised by the churches

On the occasion of the opening of the Climate Change Talks under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 31 May – 11 June 2010 in Bonn participants of an evening event organised by the churches will call upon all stakeholders in politics, society and the churches to take responsibility for climate justice.

Global warming does not only change the climate, it also increases the risk of impoverishment and destroys the hopes and development aspirations of millions of people. Reducing CO2 emissions is inevitable, and so is adapting to the consequences of climate change. The industrialised countries which have caused the major part of climate change have the responsibility to support the developing countries. The climate summit 2009 in Copenhagen has not resulted in the major breakthrough that had been hoped for: an ambitious, fair and binding climate agreement. Now there is a need for new dynamics and credible initiatives. At this evening event organised by the churches we would like to call upon all stakeholders in politics, society and the churches to take responsibility for climate justice.
