United Nations staff will take to the streets to get local people ‘Sealing the Deal’ for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

People from across the world will be manning ‘stamping stations’ in Bonn Zentrum and Bad Godesberg to mark International Volunteer Day on 5 December. They’ll be explaining to Christmas shoppers what the Copenhagen Conference means, gathering signatures for the UN’s petition and explaining how ordinary people can make a difference to global warming.
The ‘stamping stations’, where visitors can symbolically ‘Seal the Deal’ for Copenhagen, will be located on Poststrasse, Remigiusstrasse and Koblenzerstrasse from 10am on 5 December. The Remigiusstrasse stand will also operate from 11am on 28 November, and staff will be available for interviews and photographs.

The event is part of a campaign by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme to promote a successful outcome at the UN Climate Change Conference, which opens on 7 December.

“Our climate is changing and everybody needs to get involved to help us cope,” said UNV Executive Coordinator Flavia Pansieri. “Volunteers started the global environmental movement and we are an essential part of the solution to climate change. So our theme for International Volunteer Day is „Volunteering for our Planet‟ and we would like you to join us. We can send a strong signal to the Copenhagen conference that people in Bonn want to help and can be involved as volunteers.”
