The role of groundwater as a rural water supply source and livelihood: Case Study of Niger

About 100 million of the rural populations in sub-Saharan Africa are serviced by groundwater for domestic supplies and livestock rearing, with most of the villages and small towns having access to groundwater supplies. The lecture aims at understanding the interlinkage between groundwater supply in sustaining rural livelihood in order to provide guidance for policies and investments in innovative water interventions with a focus in the agricultural sector. Niger will be used as the case study which allows to draw synergies across suitable groundwater intervention against specific livelihood and agro-ecological zones
