UNFCCC | Information Update on Chile COP25, to be Held in Madrid on 2-13 December 2019

On Friday, 1 November 2019, the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) accepted the proposal from the Government of Chile to hold the 2019 UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid, which was made possible by the generous offer by the Government of the Kingdom of Spain. The following is an information update to facilitate participation:

COP25 will take place from 2 to 13 December 2019 at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid (https://www.ifema.es/en), Avda. del Partenón, 5 28042 Madrid, Spain.

The conference will take place under the Presidency of the Government of Chile and will be held with logistical support from the Government of Spain. The President-designate for the conference is Ms. Carolina Schmidt, Minister of Environment of Chile.

The UN Climate Change secretariat is now working closely with the Governments of Chile and Spain to organize the conference as efficiently and expeditiously as possible.

Every effort is being made to allow for a large participation and to maintain the scope of exhibition spaces and events as planned. The final list of side events and exhibits will be adjusted to the available space at the venue.

The UNFCCC secretariat will communicate information as soon as it becomes available. All information on the conference will be published on the website at https://unfccc.int/COP25.

Important information for participants

  • COP25 registration procedures remain the same. Registration for the conference is managed through the UNFCCC Online Registration System (ORS).
  • For visa applications, a new confirmation letter indicating the new location of the Conference is available in the “Online Registration Letter” within the Online Registration System. Participants who have already registered can download the new confirmation letter and apply for a Schengen area visa accordingly.
  • In order to help NGOs organize their delegations, as a first step, all registration confirmations have been cancelled in the Online Registration System (ORS) and all NGOs are expected to reconfirm their delegates.
  • Information about who can register for the conference and how to register is available here.
  • UN Climate Change and the Government of Spain are working on a system to provide accommodation on all levels.
  • Updates will be posted on the COP25 Information for participants (A-Z).

Important information for the press

  • Media representatives already registered may download a new acknowledgement document that indicates the location is now Madrid.
  • Media representatives who have not yet applied for accreditation are invited to submit their applications through the Online Registration System https://onlinereg.unfccc.int. The deadline for media accreditation is 25 November 2019. Early applications are highly recommended to avoid any further delays.
  • Information about media accreditation is available in Spanish here.
  • Accredited media who require a visa support letter can download a new one via the link that has previously been sent to them. The location has already been updated to Madrid.

Upon arrival to the venue, accredited media will be requested to proceed to the registration desk to collect their badge for access to the conference premises. Along with the acknowledgement document, a valid passport or a nationally approved identification card should be presented to the registration staff for the issuance of a conference badge.

Early registration – before Monday, 2 December 2019 – is highly recommended to avoid delays on the first day of the conference.
