This webinar session is part of the book talks series on “Building Development Studies for the New Millennium”, based on the new EADI volume.

In this session Rogelio Madrueño Aguilar, author of the chapter “Development Studies in Spanish (DSS): A Critical and Constructive Response from the Peripheries” discusses DSS as a response framework to Western ideas of progress and development from a wide range of disciplines and traditions of thought. In particular, he will emphasize four key ideas: 1) Pluralism and Multidimensionality, 2) Periphery, 3) Structuralism and Dependency Theories, 4) Critique and Construction The brief input talk will be followed by space for discussion and debate.

Rogelio Madrueño has a Ph.D. in International Economics and Development from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is a research fellow at the Ibero-America Institute for Economic Research (University of Göttingen) and the Spanish Network of Development Studies. His current research covers topics in economic growth, global governance, policy coherence, human security, income inequality, socio-economic development, and discourse analysis in development studies.
