On the occasion of a workshop of the Right Livelihood College (RLC), the Campus of the “Alternative Nobel Prize” in Bonn, in cooperation with the Association of German Development Services (AGdD), the three activists will speak about their strategic responses to violations of human rights, environmental rights, and indigenous rights.
Nnimmo Bassey is one of Africa’s leading human rights and environmental activists who won the Right Livelihood Award (“Alternative Nobel Prize”) for revealing the full ecological and human horrors of oil production and for his inspired work to strengthen the environmental movement in Nigeria and globally.
Hina Jilani is a pioneering Advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, President of the World Organisation Against Torture, Laureate of the Millennium Peace Prize for Women, and member of The Elders, appointed by Kofi Annan. Together with her sister, Asma Jahangir, she founded Pakistan’s first all-female legal aid practice in 1980.
Martín von Hildebrand is an ethnologist and activist for indigenous rights and forest conservation from Colombia whose organization Consolidation of the Amazon Region (COAMA) won the “Alternative Nobel Prize” for showing how indigenous people can improve their livelihoods, sustain their culture and conserve the rainforests.
