Greetings from the UN System Staff College and its Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in Bonn!

Please find below a few Sustainable Development (SD) Knowledge Highlights, including information about our courses and free-of-charge offerings.You will also notice that in this week’s newsletter we have featured additional SD online courses launching from September onward to keep you informed about up-and-coming opportunities before you might go for a well-deserved break.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the SD explainer video contest. Launched in 2017, the UNSSC and simpleshow foundation’s Volunteer Initiative allows individuals and organisations to create videos to promote action and awareness around the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SD explainer video contest gave participants the platform to create videos on any aspect of the  2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with the chance of winning a seat in the September 2018 edition of the Foundational Course on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as customised simpleshow foundation ‘scribble packages’ for their next projects for the Volunteer Initiative.

Prizes have been awarded to Jairo Eduardo Pinzón from Columbia, Vera Vrijburg from the Netherlands, and Rashida Atthar from India. Congratulations to all three winners for successfully sharing their own unique messages on sustainable development! Check out their videos here.

UN Women – UN Country Programming in the Context of the 2030 Agenda

Last week in Dakar, Senegal, we conducted a course, which aimed to equip UN Women Country Representatives and key programme personnel in West and Central Africa with the knowledge and skills to support UN Women’s positioning and engagement in UN Country programming in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the repositioning of the United Nations development system to deliver on the 2030 Agenda.

UN Summer Academy: Bringing the 2030 Agenda to life, Bonn, Germany, 27 – 31 Aug 2018

This engaging five-day programme fosters rich interaction on issues relevant to the work of the UN and its partners to concretely implement the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. It will feature panel discussions, solution oriented workshops (AppLabs), and an excursion, as well as a share fair and a boat trip.

Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development, Bonn, Germany, 18 – 21 Sep 2018

This course equips UN staff with knowledge and understanding about building partnerships working with different emerging and ‘non-traditional’ development partners: philanthropic foundations, the private sector, academia; key elements of partnering: ethics, due diligence, rules of engagement and biases; partnership frameworks and cases.

Paris Agreement on Climate Change as a Development Agenda, Online, 10 Sep – 19 Oct 2018

This joint UN Climate Change – UNSSC online course offers a holistic and integrated approach to climate change and demonstrates the interlinkages and inter dependencies between sustainable development and climate change to make informed policy choices towards low-carbon and climate resilient sustainable development.

Foundational Course on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Online, 24 Sep – 26 Oct 2018

An online course that introduces participants to key conceptual and practical aspects of sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda, while covering issues of means of implementation, localisation of the agenda, and review and follow-up framework.

Measurements for Effective Results-Based Management, Online, 01 Oct – 09 Nov 2918

A tutored online course designed for UN and UN-affiliated staff that will enhance your competencies in designing, monitoring and evaluating projects and programmes for effective RBM.

Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development, Online, 01 Oct – 02 Nov 2018

This engaging 5-week online course aims to equip participants with knowledge and skills to analyse policies that are coherent as well as mutually reinforcing across departments and agencies.
