08.05.2016 | CMS: Benefit concert for the World Migratory Bird Day

For the fourth consecutive year the operatic choir, Chorale Lirica San Rocco from Bologna, Italy will be giving a benefit concert in Bonn, as part of the annual celebration of World Migratory Bird Day. The proceeds from the concert will be donated to a project related to bird conservation.

The concert entitled “Flight through a Decade” includes a programme of ten arias taken from major works each set in a different country, mirroring the various States that birds pass through on their annual migration.

A leading member of the choir is Fernando Spina who serves as chair of the Scientific Council of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, which together with the Agreement on the Conservation of Migratory African-Eurasian Waterbirds organizes WMBD.

The focus of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is the illegal killing, taking and trade of migratory birds and the slogan of the campaign is “…and when the skies fall silent?” Millions of birds are killed or captured each year as they migrate, numbers which are becoming unsustainable and threatened once common species with extinction.

The concert will be taking place at the Aula (auditorium) of the University of Bonn at 11:00 am on Sunday, 8 May. Entrance is free but attendees are invited to make a donation. The event is being sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, the City of Bonn and the local Lions Club. More details about the concert can be found on the WMBD website.
