Following final approval of financing requirements, Department I “Bi- and Multilateral Development Cooperation” is seeking a
Researcher (m/f, 100%)
Salary according to German public service tariff (TVÖD) from € 41.000 up to € 64.000 depending on qualifications;
The position shall be filled as soon as possible. The position is limited to a term ending on 31 December 2016.
The individual will work in the research and advisory project ’United Nations development system: fit for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The project’s aim is to formulate options and proposals on how to reform the UN development system in the context of (1) known weaknesses such as the fragmented institutional structures, eroding core funding, inadequate governance, and broad functions; and (2) new demands arising from the 2030 Agenda, such as integrated approaches; bringing together UN development, peacebuilding and humanitarian work, leveraging the strengths of the UN’s normative work, and working with partnerships. The project results will feed into the policy dialogue on the longer term positioning of the UN Development system conducted by the UN Economic and Social Council. We are looking for individuals with strong research and communication skills who can provide sound policy advice and are good team players.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Masters Degree or equivalent in political science, economics or public administration;
- Proven knowledge and experience preferably in both, research and policy advice on the United Nations, in particular concerning its development cooperation and humanitarian work and the related institutional structures, policies and politics;
- Research or job-related experience gained in developing countries;
- Fluent spoken and written English, good knowledge of German is an asset;
- Willingness to work in a team;
- Willingness and aptness to frequently travel to Berlin and abroad, including countries with a tropical climate (“Tropentauglichkeit”).
