12.-13.03.2014 | DIE/PEGNet: Registration for the DIE/PEGNet International Workshop on 'Green and social: managing synergies and trade-offs' now open

Registration is now open at http://www.amiando.com/green-and-social.html for the international workshop on ‘Green and social: managing synergies and trade-offs’, taking place at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), Tulpenfeld 6, 53113 Bonn, Germany, on 12-13 March 2014.

Confirmed keynotes: Marianne Fay (World Bank), Koko Warner (UNU EHS), Leisa Perch (World Centre for Sustainable Development), Prof. Dr. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker (Co-Chair, International Resource Panel UNEP).

Climate change is among the most pressing examples of global environmental challenges we are facing today. At the same time, about 1.2 billion people still live in extreme poverty. This calls for a transformation of existing development pathways towards environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness. These two agendas can be synergistic or conflicting. Synergies have been explored to some extent in recent concepts such as the ‘green economy’, while the associated trade-offs and conflicts have received less attention.

With the workshop ‘Green and social: managing synergies and trade-offs’, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the Poverty Reduction, Equity and Growth Network (PEGNet) aim to address the gap between environmental and social perspectives on development by bringing together research and practice, but also the environmental and the social inclusion communities.

Registration will be open until 14 February 2014. For organizational matters such as travel and accommodation please contact Sonja Neweling (sonja.neweling@die-gdi.de ). For content related information please contact Anna Pegels (anna.pegels@die-gdi.de ) or Carmen Richerzhagen (carmen.richerzhagen@die-gdi.de ).
