Background
The 4C Association aims to unite all relevant coffee stakeholders in working towards the improvement of the economic, social & environmental conditions of coffee production and processing to build a thriving, sustainable sector for generations to come. The 4C Association is the leading global multi-stakeholder sustainable coffee platform, guiding the sector towards mainstream sustainability in a pre-competitive arena where all relevant stakeholders are enabled to participate.
To fulfill its mission the 4C Association sets out to:
  • Provide a recognized baseline standard, the 4C Code of Conduct and its verification system as first step in continuous improvement  towards sustainability
  • Promote and partner with other sustainability standards and initiatives in the market
  • Be a multi-stakeholder sustainable coffee platform addressing the broader sustainability agenda, which includes common, overarching challenges that affect coffee sector sustainability (e.g. climate change, ageing trees, access to finance, productivity etc.)
In order to maintain and strengthen its activities related to communication and media relations, the 4C Association is currently looking for an experienced Communications Manager (maternity cover).
1. Role

Under the director supervision of the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of a wide range of communication projects, products and services as outlined in the global Communications Strategy.

2.Main tasks and responsibilities
  • To implement the 4C Communications Strategy according to the approved work plan;
  • To lead the development of project-, program- or topic-related communications strategies, in line with the 4C Association’s mission.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the 4C Association’s identity/brand
  • Ensuring 4C members communicate about their participation in the 4C Association in accordance with the 4C Communication Guidelines
  • Translating the organization’s key messages into creative solutions that visually connect with the target audience and help to tell the story
  • Develop, produce and distribute of the bi-monthly Activities Updates and other core publications, such as the annual report, including liaising with editors, proof readers, designers and printers.
  • To write and disseminate media releases, articles, editorials, etc.
  • To develop content for websites, social media and corporate communications material.
  • To provide comprehensive editorial support to the 4C Secretariat team.
  • To manage press engagement, maintain a high-quality media database and media monitoringreports as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with others in the team to support the preparation of 4C events such as the General Assembly and/or Sustainability Forums.
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the Executive Director
3. Profile & qualifications
  • Education and training: University (bachelor or masters) degree in a relevant field (e.g.communications, marketing, journalism, public relations).
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in communications work related to the roles and responsibilities of this position; experience in marketing preferred
  • Good time management skills: ability to perform well while handling a number of functions simultaneously.
  • Experience in implementation of communications strategies
  • Experience with sustainability standard systems and certification/verification schemes;
  • Excellent skills in the use of standard software packages (MS Office).
  • Strong Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) as Typo3.
  • Good knowledge of video editing, web and layout design an asset.
  • Proven excellence in writing and editing skills in English; fluency in German, Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Experience in communicating with the media.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Innovative and creative thinking in relation to communication;
  • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
