Global Media Forum: Prominent speakers "Avram Noam Chomsky and Vandana Shiva"

World-renowned linguist, philosopher and political critic, Avram Noam Chomsky, and Indian physicist and sustainability activist, Vandana Shiva, have confirmed their participation at this year’s Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum. Online registration has begun.

Chomsky, an intellectual father of the Occupy movement, will address the international media congress on its opening day, Monday, 17 June 2013. Chomsky will share his thoughts on the main theme of the three-day meeting, “The Future of Growth – Economic Values and the Media”. Vandana Shiva, a recipient of Right Livelihood Award and a member of the Club of Rome, will speak  on the last day of the event, Wednesday, 19 June 2013.

Other high-profile guests include Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs within the EU’s European External Action Service; Mohammed Valli Moosa, formerly South Africa’s Environment Minister in Nelson Mandela’s government; Mohan Munasinghe, professor of sustainable development at the University of Manchester and founder and chair of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND) in Sri Lanka; and Aart de Geus, Chairman and CEO of the Bertelsmann Foundation, who also served as the Netherlands’ minister of social affairs and employment from 2002 to 2007.

Online registration to the 2013 Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum is now underway. Conference fees are 250 euros for all three days, 200 euros for two days and 120 euros for one day. Reduced rates apply for pupils and students: 85, 65 and 45 euros respectively.
