UNU-EHS: PhD Block Course "From Vulnerability to Resilience in Disaster Risk Management". Registration deadline: 31 January 2013

UNU-EHS in close collaboration with the Tohoku University and the University of Bonn invite young scientists to apply for the 2013 PhD Block Course (10 – 22 March 2013) focusing on the role of vulnerability and resilience in the field of disaster risk management.

Main objectives of the course are to increase the awareness regarding the complexity and importance of vulnerability and resilience in the field of disaster risk management and to explore options to reduce vulnerability and risk by improved adaptive capacities.

Following an ice breaker session on 10 March, this year´s course will start with the Scientific Workshop “The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami 11 March 2011 – Lessons Learned and Research Questions”, taking place on 11 March 2013.

Who can apply?
The course is addressed to PhD candidates in the initial phase of their PhD studies. Applicants should have an interdisciplinary focus and work on research or dissertations related to vulnerability and resilience in the context of disaster risk management.
Date & venue
10 – 22 March 2013, UN Campus Bonn, Germany.
Please note: Travel expenses, local transportation, hotel accommodation and daily subsistence will NOT be covered by UNU-EHS.
