Helon Habila was born in 1967 in Nigeria and lives in the USA. He writes both poetry and prose. He has won many literary awards, including the Commonwealth Writers Prize (2003) and the Emily Balch Prize for short fiction (2008). In 2013 he will be a guest of the Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme of the DAAD.
The author will be reading from his book Oil on Water. The novel is about the environmental catastrophe in the Niger delta.

Helon Habila wurde 1967 in Nigeria geboren und lebt in den USA. Er schreibt Gedichte und Prosa. Er erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter der Commonwealth Writers‘ Prize (2003) und der Emily Balch Prize für Kurzgeschichten (2008). 2013 wird er Gast im Berliner Künstlerprogramm des DAAD sein.
Der Autor liest aus seinem Werk „Oil on Water“, einem Roman über die Öko-Katastrophe im Nigerdelta. Das Buch ist 2012 im Wunderhorn Verlag in deutscher Übersetzung erschienen.
