14. – 16.11.2012 | UNEVOC: The role of the Network in transforming TVET for a sustainable future

Organized by the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET, this International Forum on the role of the UNEVOC Network in Transforming TVET for a Sustainable Future seeks to strengthen the UNEVOC Network – a global network comprising over 280 TVET institutions – and facilitate regional cooperation for the improvement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The International Forum, which coincides with the commemoration of UNESCO-UNEVOC’s 10 year anniversary, takes place from 14 to 16 November 2012 at the UN Campus in Bonn, and will highlight the Centre’s key priorities in establishing partnerships towards promoting greening TVET for sustainable development and the empowerment of TVET teachers. The Forum will bring together over 100 TVET experts, policy makers, and senior delegates from leading TVET institutions from over 55 countries. During the three-day Forum, they will discuss ways and means of implementing the recommendations and conclusions of the Third International TVET Congress, share ideas and practices to enhance knowledge effectively, research a variety of perspectives on Transforming TVET for a Sustainable Future, and lay the foundation for future work, including the strengthening of the global UNEVOC community and identifying relevant mechanisms to sustain it.

Since its establishment, the Centre has supported its Member States to develop policies and practices concerning education for the world of work and skills development for employability and citizenship, to achieve TVET that is relevant, lifelong and accessible to all. The Centre acts as part of the United Nations mandate to promote peace, justice, equity, poverty alleviation, and social cohesion.

UNESCO-UNEVOC was founded following requests from Member States to establish a long-term programme on TVET, and has benefitted immensely from its location in Bonn, Germany, an international city known for global dialogue and international collaboration, and is recognized as the hub for actors working towards achieving sustainable development. It is no coincidence that the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre is based in Germany, widely known for its Dual System, which combines apprenticeships and vocational education and training, and prepares people for employment and further learning. Over the last decade, UNESCO-UNEVOC has established strong and productive partnerships with a range of organizations and institutions in Germany, such as the German National Commission for UNESCO, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education (BIBB), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Water Association (DWA). With support of the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and in collaboration with its partners, UNESCO-UNEVOC has successfully implemented programmes to strengthen and upgrade TVET systems around the world.

Date and Venue: 14 to 16 November 2012, United Nations Campus, Bonn

Information
