5 May 2022 | World Politics on Campus – Online Talk & Discussion: Climate Negotiations – the Marathon from Berlin to Sharm-el-Sheikh (HBRS)

[:en]In the framework of our lecture series World Politics on Campus – Welcoming the world at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences we will host Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as our distinguished guest on 5 May 2022 from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM (CEST / UTC+2). He will hold a keynote lecture about climate negotiations – the marathon from Berlin to Sharm-el-Sheikh (in English language).

Jochen Flasbarth took office as State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in December 2021. From 2013 to 2021, he was State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Prior to that, he held the position of President of the Federal Environment Agency for four years. He holds a degree in economics from the Universities of Münster and Bonn.

On 5 May 2022, he will hold a keynote on climate negotiations – the marathon from Berlin to Sharm-El-Sheikh. Why is it so difficult to arrive at common sense in a matter so obvious and urgent? What are the rationales behind the different positions of the participating states? How to build alliances and arrive at consensus? Who are the key players and what happens behind the curtains in die back rooms of the negotiations?

The online talk & discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Claudia Warning and is open to everyone interested.
