The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (University of Bonn) is an international research university that offers a wide range of degree programs. Starting from 1 April 2019, and for the duration of two years, the Agricultural Faculty seeks to employ 2 Postdoctoral Researchers for the Research Area “Digitalization and Sustainability” (100%) for the Innovation Campus Bonn (ICB). The ICB is a new joint initiative by six Bonn-based research institutions (University of Bonn, with the Center for Development Research, the United Nations University, the German Development Institute, the Bonn International Center for Conversion, and the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg/ University of Applied Sciences) which is hosted by the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Bonn. “Digitaina-ble”, a two-year project within the research area “Digitalization and Sustainability”, will focus on a detailed analysis of the connection between digitalization and artificial intelligence and the UN Agenda 2030.
The positions are limited to the duration of two years according to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract) § 2.2 with the possibility of extension if funds are available.
Your responsibilities:
- conduct research on the connections between technical and socio-economic aspects of the interdependence between digitalization, including artificial intelligence, and sustainability
- build up research cooperation within the scope of the ICB as well as with other Ger-man and international partners in relevant disciplines
- support the development of teaching modules in the research area for the University of Bonn and other ICB partners, with the opportunity to teach classes for undergrad-uate and graduate students
- support the organization of international workshops and conferences in the research area “Digitalization and Sustainability”
Your qualifications (1st researcher)
- a strong academic track record in a technical science or natural sciences discipline (IT and/or technical skills are mandatory)
- a PhD in a technical or natural science discipline
- knowledge of and experience with modern developments in IT (such as machine learning and industry 4.0)
- strong interest in cross-disciplinary and collaborative research, particularly related to sustainability research
- experience in proposal writing
- excellent conduct of spoken and written English
Your qualifications (2nd researcher)
- a strong academic track record in social or political sciences (including sociology, social geography, political sciences)
- a PhD in social or political sciences discipline
- experience in sustainability research and in-depth knowledge of the UN Agenda 2030
- strong interest in cross-disciplinary and collaborative research
- experience in proposal writing
- excellent conduct of spoken and written English
