UNSSC: SD Knowledge Highlights

Greetings from the UN System Staff College and its Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in Bonn!

Please find below a few Sustainable Development (SD) Knowledge Highlights, including information about our courses and free-of-charge offerings.

The 2030 Agenda is nationally-led and nationally-owned. At the same time, it calls for a whole-of-society effort if we want people to think and act differently, taking all dimensions of sustainable development into account when they make every-day decisions. It is the role of the UN System to support Member States’ efforts, as they engage diverse partners and stakeholders. In fact, stakeholder engagement is key to bring out the capacities and knowledge of all actors, including the ones who have traditionally not had a seat at the table. Since 2016, UN Member States have given the United Nations Systems a clear direction of travel, demanding that UN entities work together more efficiently and more effectively across all areas of work of the United Nations System so that it can support countries with one voice. On 31 May, Member States have adopted a resolution, based on concrete reform proposals put forward by the UN Secretary General António Guterres, who declared that “[the resolution] sets the foundations to reposition sustainable development at the heart of the United Nations.”

At the UN System Staff College we are supporting these efforts towards a transformed UN, based on a “new generation of UN Country Teams” and a “reinvigorated Resident Coordinator system.” In order to address the new learning needs and widen spaces for diverse actors to contribute to implementing the 2030 Agenda, the UNSSC Knowledge Center for Sustainable Development is offering a range of targeted trainings, which you can find in our portfolio. You can learn more about the reform here.

Speaking about reaching difficult societal goals, during our recent UN Country Teams Leadership course, we had the privilege to host the New York Times bestselling author Mark Murphy, who underlined how important it is for individuals to set hard goals for themselves if they are to successfully contribute to the wider organizational and societal objectives.Read his blog here.

Below you can find our courses and free of charge offerings as usual, as well as the latest tailored training we have delivered for Turkish SDG focal points and experts from diverse Turkish Ministries and the Turkish Statistical Commission.
