UNSSC: SD Knowledge Highlights

Greetings from the Staff College and its Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in Bonn!

We are pleased to provide you with a few Sustainable Development (SD) Knowledge Highlights, including information about our courses and free-of-charge offerings.

Here at the Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, we emphasize that the 2030 Agenda calls for a holistic approach to identify the right answers to complex challenges. We often illustrate this point with the metaphor of a Rubik’s cube. Sustainable development, like a Rubik’s cube, is multi-faceted. Achieving true sustainability requires us to consider people, prosperity, planet, partnership, and peace. We cannot solve one aspect without considering the impacts on the others, and we must be mindful that what appears to be a solution in one area may inadvertently cause damage in another area.

In the wake of the second UN SG Report on repositioning the UN development system to deliver on the 2030 Agenda, at the Knowledge Centre we are revisiting all our offerings for UN staff to ensure their alignment with UN Reform and the competences and skills required to deliver on the 2030 Agenda.

You may also want to revisit a blog post which we shared shortly after the release of the first UN SG Report last June. In the blog, our Head of Office Patrick van Weerelt discusses key conceptual shifts in the UN system, and identifies the consequent learning and training needs which we aim to meet through our work.
