Outcome mapping is an actor focused and learning oriented planning, monitoring and evaluation method. It is particularly useful for development programmes supporting complex change. Outcome mapping recognizes that development is essentially about people relating to each other and their environment. The approach focusses on changes in behaviour, relationships, actions, and activities of people, groups, and organizations. In doing so, Outcome mapping debunks many of the myths about measuring impact. It helps programmes be specific about the actors they target, the changes they expect to see, and the strategies they employ. As a result programmes can become more effective.
The training is directed at monitoring and evaluation staff working with German development and humanitarian aid NGOs of small and medium size. The training will be held in English. The training will be conducted by Jan Van Ongevalle, who has been using outcomemapping since 2005 as a development practitioner, researcher and consultant. Jan currently works as a research leader at HIVA-KULEUVEN in Belgium. He is also an advisor for the outcome mapping learning community.
