IFOAM: Call for an Organic Guarantee and Projects Assistant (Job offer)

IFOAM, Organics International leads, unites and assists the global organic movement. It has about 800 affiliates in nearly 120 countries and also acts as a Global Action Network that implements projects around the world.

The Organic Guarantee System (OGS) is a core function enabling the organization to fulfill its mission and purpose. The OGS is a package of activities and services, which contains, amongst others, the IFOAM Family of Standards, the IFOAM Accreditation Program, the IFOAM Standard, and the PGS (Participatory Guarantee Systems) support program.

On the basis of its OGS, IFOAM.Organics International implements a number of activities related to organic regulations, sector development, and capacity building. Such activities may be implemented in the context of consultancies or donor.funded projects or general advocacy activities.

In 2015, IFOAM.Organics International started working on a global study and toolkit development on policies and programs that support Organic Agriculture development.

Given the recent development of the above activities, we are looking for a motivated employee for our team in the areas of organic guarantee and policy as well as project coordination. The position will be based at the Head Office of IFOAM.Organics International in Bonn, Germany. The Organic Guarantee and Projects Assistant will work closely with the Organic Policy and Guarantee Manager, and with the staff of the Program Department.

Job duties of the Organic Guarantee and Projects Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the administration of the OGS services (particularly the IFOAM Family of Standards)

  • Assist in the implementation of other OGS.related technical work, such as

  • implementation of motions from the General Assembly on topics related to organic standards.

  • Implement PGS activities, including for instance the production of the PGS newsletter,

  • the collection and dissemination of PGS data and resources, the chairing of the PGS committee, the management of PGS projects and pro.PGS advocacy towards governments.

  • Assist in the implementation of the global study on policies and programs that support Organic Agriculture, and in the production and dissemination of the subsequent policy toolkit.

  • Participation in the management of other projects implemented by IFOAM.Organics International.

Skills, qualification and experience

The successful candidate identifies with the mission and goals of the organization and is able to positively relate to the strategic plan of IFOAM – Organics International.

She/he conducts her/his work with uncompromising integrity and loyalty appropriate to the position. In addition she/he positively contributes to the team spirit of our multicultural Head Office. A high level of initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision also characterizes the candidate.

The candidate should possess the following:

  • An academic background and/or personal involvement in the issues of sustainable food production, environmental policies or international development cooperation.

  • A good understanding of Organic Agriculture including its practices and its overall regulatory and institutional landscape.

  • Ability for logical and strategic thinking, to gain a quick understanding of complex technical issues related to agricultural science, economics, or policy matters.

  • Exposure to a variety of cultural contexts and ability to work with project partners in various continents.

  • Ability to effectively and creatively handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines;

  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

  • Ability to work in a multi.cultural environment and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

The following competencies are desirable:

  • Working experience in or exposure to the topics of organic guarantee (standards, certification and/or Participatory Guarantee Systems) and/or project coordination.

  • Second Language, e.g. knowledge in Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Russian and/or Chinese.

Conditions

Position: 80 % to 100 % of a full time position. 1,5.year.contract, that might be expanded.

Location: Bonn, Germany.

Starting date: February/March 2016.

Salary: Depending on years of relevant experience and qualification, the salary ranges for a full.time position from 24.000 € to 28.800 € p.a. (brut).
