22.10.2015 | University of Bonn: Planetary boundaries – limits for sustainable use of natural resources (ARTS seminar)

Winter term started yesterday (19.10.2015) at Bonn University.

The international master program “ARTS” will contribute a seminar series on the dimensions of climate change. Please find the program hier.

You are always welcome, no need of registration.

The topic of the first lecture on coming Thursday will point out the planetary boundaries:

Date: 22.10.2015 Uhrzeit: 17:00 – 18:30 ( Donnerstag )

Planetary boundaries – limits for sustainable use of natural resources

Referent/in:

PD Dr. Stefan Siebert

Inhalt:

The use of natural resources in the agricultural sector to produce food, fiber and fuel has altered energy and matter fluxes on planet earth with strong and complex impacts on ecosystem functioning. The concept of planetary boundaries has introduced thresholds for the human perturbation of the earth system beyond which the earth system may be destabilized and earth system functioning may be substantially altered. This seminar talk will introduce the planetary boundaries framework, explain how planetary boundaries are defined and regionalized and describe the current stage of the considered earth system processes. A specific focus will be on the impact of the agricultural sector; opportunities for increasing productivity while reducing the environmental impact will be discussed.

Ort:

Institut für Geodäsie und Geoinformation, (Nussallee 1 53115 Bonn), Raum HS I
