07.10.2015 | UN DESA / DIE: After the Summit: Implementing the sustainable development agenda

For our next lecture at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Insitut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), we are happy to announce that Thomas Gass, Assistant Secretary-General of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) will talk about the process of the sustainable development agenda after the SDG-Summit in New York. Imme Scholz, Deputy Director at the DIE, will contribute to the lecture by commenting on the insights of Thomas Gass and the recent developments.

The UN member states have now adopted a new agenda for sustainable development, including a set of universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Have they succeeded in striking a new partnership for protecting and providing global public goods for current and future generations? Have they paved the ground for the implementation of an ambitious agenda that adequately balances the economic, social and ecological dimensions of development in the next decade? UN Assistant Secretary-General Thomas Gass will provide a critical appraisal of the Summit’s outcome and outline what needs to be done to implement the new agenda effectively. He will also discuss which role the UN system can play in the promotion, implementation and monitoring of the new agenda.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our seventh lecture on October 7th, 2015, 5pm at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE).
