DIE: Job Vacancy Researcher (m/f) in department “Governance, Statehood and Security”

The department “Governance, Statehood and Security” is seeking one

Researcher (m/f, up to 100%)
Salary according to German public service tariff (TVÖD) up to € 63.000,00 depending on qualifications;

The positions shall be filled as soon as possible. The position is limited to a term ending on 31 December 2017.

The researcher will work on international support to democracy and human rights and values/value systems such as religion and culture. He/she will contribute to empirical research and national as well as international policy advice on the influence of value-driven beliefs and attitudes on the effectiveness of international support to governance (e.g. accountability, transparency) in developing countries. We are looking for individuals with strong research and communication skills who can independently conduct excellent empirical research, who can provide sound policy advice and who are good team players.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Excellent academic record and a master’s degree or PhD (preferred), ideally in political science, economics, or other related social sciences;
  • Very good command of quantitative methods;
  • Substantial knowledge in one or more of the following issue areas: governance studies; democracy promotion; values/value systems;
  • Research or professional experience in developing countries;
  • Excellent English skills (spoken and written) and good knowledge in another major international language; German is an asset;
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including to countries with tropical climates.
