From 23 to 25 July, BICC will host the 9th International South Sudan and Sudan Studies Conference “Identity, Economy, Power Relations and External Interests: Old and New Challenges for Sudan and South Sudan” at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn. The conference is organized by BICC, the Sudan Studies Association USA and Sudan Studies Society UK. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Foundation for International Dialogue of the Savings Bank in Bonn.
About 200 researchers and experts from South Sudan and Sudan, from other African countries as well as Europe and the United States will participate in the international conference, which will take place from 23 to 25 July in Bonn.
This conference seeks to reflect on recent work, open up new discussion and encourage future research. It will bring together scholars working in different disciplines to extend the body of authoritative knowledge on both Sudan and South Sudan. The first day of the conference is dedicated to the issue “Identity”, the second will deal with “Economy and External Interests” and the third will discuss “Power Relations and External Interests”. The participants are invited to exchange their experiences and knowledge in parallel panel discussions.
