ELC_Guidelines

The Guidelines for Protected Areas Legislation, Environmental Policy and Law Paper No. 81, is now available in print and electronically. The publication is the result of a three-year project led by the IUCN Environmental Law Centre (ELC), in cooperation with the IUCN Global Protected Areas Programme (PAP) and with extensive contributions from the Commission on Environmental Law (CEL) and the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), as well as important inputs from the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP).

The purpose of the Guidelines is to assist all those involved or interested in the development of protected areas legislation to take stock of recent development, trends, and progress in this sector of environmental law which is at the intersection of biological diversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation and also at the core of livelihood preservation.

It is composed of a printed volume containing the English version of the Guidelines for Protected Areas Legislation, and a CD attached to the book back cover, which contains the Guidelines text, as well as the 15 case studies which illustrate them. A French and Spanish version of the Guidelines will be available later in 2011.
