Ursula Schäfer-Preuss is Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. She assumed office in November 2006. Ms. Schäfer-Preuss is responsible for ADB’s Regional and Sustainable Development Department, Economics and Research Department, and the Office of Cofinancing Operations.
Prior to joining ADB, she was the Director General of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Bonn/Berlin, Germany. She was responsible for policies and principles of German Development Cooperation. She was also engaged in bilateral cooperation with countries in Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
A German national, Ms. Schäfer-Preuss is an economist and has been engaged in the field of development policy for more than 30 years. She took her post-graduate studies in political science, economics and sociology in Freiburg and Bonn and earned her Doctorate and Master’s degree in Economics at the Albert-Ludwig University in Freiburg. She has economics and sociology degrees, major in development policy, from the same university.
