UNU-EHS and Uni Bonn: Master Programme – Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security

Admission for the International Joint MSc Programme “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security” of The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and the Department of Geography of the University of Bonn (GIUB) have opened. Since its launch in October 2013, a total of 98 students from 26 countries have been studying within the Master programme.

The application deadline for the MSc programme is 15 January, 2017.

Since this year, the Joint Master’s programme offers a certain number of fully funded scholarships to students from developing countries as part of the EPOS funding scheme offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The course provides a spring board to young students who are interested to develop careers within international organizations, such as the UN. As part of the curriculum students are required to complete a minimum of 8 weeks internship, and write a Master Thesis in collaboration with partner institutions. This affords students the opportunity to participate in research projects and apply the knowledge they have obtained. Over the past year our students have participated in research or project work in a number of organisations, as well as, being located in more than 20 countries worldwide.

The Master programme offers great visibility and exposure to international organizations, federal agencies, academic and non-academic research organizations, as well as private companies and corporations involved in disaster risk reduction and preparedness, humanitarian aid, international relations, research on climate change, food security, spatial planning, and policy. Future career options may arise in all of these thematic fields depending on individual preferences and career goals.
