IFOAM: One World Award – Call for Nominations

Once again it is time to propose innovative ideas, projects and individuals from around the world for the One World Award (OWA). The call for nominations is open until September 30, 2016. The international OWA award will be granted for the fifth time by the organic food producer Rapunzel and IFOAM – Organics International.

From the nominees a jury will select four laureates who will receive the award in a festive gala event on occasion of the Rapunzel ONE WORLD Festival in September 2017 in Legau/ Allgäu. The “encourager award” which is endowed with a total of 40,000 Euro honors individuals who steer globalization in a positive and humane direction. Award-winning projects incorporate ecological, economic and social aspects.

In the fall 2016, the OWA committee will select four laureates from the international nominations. The laureates will be presented at the gala and to the media. Each laureate will receive an OWA medal and a 5,000 cash prize. “The One World Award initiative is an unparalleled source of strength for all those engaged in bringing true sustainability to agriculture” says Markus Arbenz, Executive Director of IFOAM – Organics International.

An international jury will award the OWA Gold Award to the best of the best. In addition to the bronze “Lady OWA” statue, the OWA Gold Award winner will receive a 25,000 Euro cash prize. The OWA jury is made up of  renowned advocates such as Dr. Vandana Shiva and Nnimmo Bassey (both laureates of the Right Livelihood Award) as well as Roberto Ugas, Member of the World Board of IFOAM – Organics International.  The prize money is sponsored by Rapunzel.

The idea behind the OWA is becoming more important every day and every year in light of global developments and the never-ending stream of refugees. It is high time to act now “, states Joseph Wilhelm, OWA initiator, founder and managing director of Rapunzel Naturkost with respect to the OWA 2017.

Information about the terms of participation and about previous finalists can be found at www.one-world-award.com. Self-nominations are not possible. The application forms must be completed and submitted in English. The application deadline ends September 30, 2016.
