07.09.2015 | University of Bonn: Save the people and the planet: The quest for sustainable development goals (Reminder)

In September 2015, the UN General Assembly will decide on a new agenda for sustainable development. This will guide policies for the next 15 years, including a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals will target all countries, rich and poor, and aim at both public and private actors. They are supposed to be universal in scope and to reach beyond development policy to further a truly transformative agenda. What are the chances for such an ambitious outcome of the September summit? What lines of conflict persist between North and South, where are areas for compromise? What means are required to ensure the new agenda’s effective implementation?

The event will take place at the Bonn University Forum between 17.00 and 19.00 hours

Speakers:

Jens Martens, Executive Director, Global Policy Forum (GPF)

Dr. Marianne Beisheim, Senior Associate, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP)

Please register online.

This event is part of the lecture series ‘The United Nations at 70: Fit for “The Future We Want”?’ organised by the Forum Internationale WIssenschaft | Dept. for Strategic Partnerships in cooperation with the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the Liaison Office International Academic Sciences of the UN City of Bonn.
