The University of Bonn invites you on behalf of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to a panel discussion on

“Transformations in the Middle East and North Africa: The Youth as Key to a Successful Future”

which will take place

on Monday, May 11, 2015

at Universitätsclub Bonn e.V.

In the context of the “Bonn Conference for Global Transformation”, the panel discussion will cover the political, economic and social transformation in the Middle East and North Africa with a particular focus on the key role of the youth for the region’s future.

The panel discussion is part of the discussion series “Sustainable Development and Risk Management in International Cooperation” which offers a forum for networking and promotes the visibility of Bonn as an international city of science. The discussion series is jointly organized by EuroConsult Research & Education, the University of Bonn, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI).

Talkrunde „Politische Transformation im Nahen Osten und Nordafrika – Die Jugend als Schlüssel zu einer erfolgreichen Zukunft“

Durch den Abend führt Mohamad Rabah. Er gehört selbst zur jungen Generation aus der Region und weiß um die gesellschaftlichen Schwierigkeiten, die dem Engagement Jugendlicher entgegenstehen. In Palästina hat er mit der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH unter dem Motto „Youth Create Change“ Jugendzentren aufgebaut.

Mit ihm diskutieren:

  • Iman Abdulfattah, die Studentin aus Ägypten promoviert derzeit im Fach Islamwissenschaften an der Universität Bonn.
  • Bettina Horstmann leitet das Referat „Grundsatzfragen der entwicklungspolitischen Zusammenarbeit mit MENA; Nordafrika; Mittelmeerpolitik” im Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ).
  • Johanna Mitscherlich arbeitete 2014 für CARE Deutschland e.V. in einem Flüchtlingscamp in Jordanien, wobei der Blog „2014 – Mein Jahr mit syrischen Flüchtlingen“ entstand.
  • Prof. Dr. Christine Schirrmacher ist Islamwissenschaftlerin an der Universität Bonn.
  • Prof. Dr. Bernhard Trautner ist Mitarbeiter des Deutschen Instituts für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) und Experte im Bereich Kooperation und Entwicklung im Mittleren Osten und Nordafrika.

Die Talkrunde findet auf Englisch statt. Im Anschluss haben Sie bei Getränken und Snacks Gelegenheit zum Netzwerken.
