About the lecture:

The Water Lecture will deal with this year’s World Water Day theme of water and sustainable development. Water touches, among others, upon food security, energy, desertification, drought, environment and climate change adaptation and serves as a unifying factor within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During this lecture, it will be discussed why water and capacity are essential for sustainable development, how water and capacity development-related goals and targets can be embedded in the post-2015 development agenda and what the status of the current negotiations in the process is.

About World Water Day:

The World Water Day is held annually on March 22 to emphasize the relevance of fresh water and to promote the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater – Water and Sustainable Development is 2015’s focus.

About the Water Lecture Series:

The Water Lecture series is a joint series organized by the Center for Development Research (ZEF), the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC), the United Nations University (UNU) in Bonn, the Global Water Systems Project (GWSP), the German Development Institute (DIE) and the Water Unit of the Geography Department (University of Bonn).
