A new website for the ICLEI World Congress 2015 was unveiled recently. With a cleaner, clearer design and enhanced functionality, the website will make it easier for visitors to acquire the information they need. Resilient Cities Asia Pacific congress calls for action on urban resilience

Mayors and municipal leaders from the Asia Pacific region have called for a more concerted and coordinated action to build resilience and adapt to the intensifying impacts of climate change. Brazilian City Fortaleza sets out guidelines for its Low Carbon Development Plan

On 6 February, Fortaleza’s Planning and Environment Secretariat held the 2nd Meeting of the Climate Change Forum (FORCLIMA) to discuss the City’s Low Carbon Development Policy plan, which they plan to launch soon. The Meeting was open to all interested parties and was organized via thematic working groups on energy, transportation, waste and construction, enabling a joint development of the Low Carbon City Plan. Seoul, Republic of Korea – the host of the ICLEI World Congress 2015 – recently announced that it plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 10 million metric tons over the next five years as part of the fight against global warming. Launch of Report on District Energy in Cities: Unlocking the Potential of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

A new report by UNEP’s Energy, in partnership with ICLEI, has surveyed low-carbon cities worldwide to identify the key factors underlying their success in scaling up energy efficiency and renewable energy in district energy, as well as in attaining targets for zero or low greenhouse gas emissions. Modern district energy systems emerged as a good practice approach for providing a local, affordable and low-carbon energy supply, and represented a significant opportunity for cities around the world to move towards climate-resilient, resource-efficient and low-carbon pathways. Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of ICLEI member Calgary (Canada), has been awarded the 2014 World Mayor Prize. The Canadian leader, who is described as an “urban visionary who doesn’t neglect the nitty-gritty of local government”, was followed in second, third and fifth places, respectively, by ICLEI Members Daniël Termont of Ghent (Belgium), Tri Rismaharini of Surabaya (Indonesia) and Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo (Philippines).
