The One Health concept embraces not only human but also animal and environmental health. Several examples from Africa are presented that illustrate how holistic natural resource management strategies that pursue a One Health approach are capable of addressing major constraints of the rural poor in sub-Saharan Africa, thereby improving their livelihoods,without compromising the natural resource base.
