The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) cordially invites you to a book launch and expert discussion about

The UN and a new set of goals: Fit for Purpose?

12 December 2014 at 1 p. m.

at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) in Bonn

While the United Nations (UN) are central to the process of determining the new set of goals that will follow the Millennium Goals in 2015, there has been little introspection on its own organizational capacity to help countries to meet them. Which role should the UN play in the implementation of the new agenda? How does the UN-system need to change to become more “fit for purpose” in response to the emerging post-2015 agenda? What are the chances for reform, and what are the obstacles? Which role can Germany and other Western countries play? These questions are at the centre of the expert discussion on the occasion of the publication of the book “Post-2015 UN Development Making Change Happen?” edited by Steven Browne and Thomas G. Weiss (Routledge, London and New York 2014)

Panelists include Prof. Thomas G. Weiss (City University New York), Stephen Browne, (FUNDS Project), Dr. Silke Weinlich (DIE), John Hendra, Senior Coordinator “UN Fit for Purpose” for the Post-2015 Development Agenda (United Nations, New York), Dr. Jürgen Zattler, Deputy Director-General, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany and Dr. Martin Frick, Representative of Germany to the International Organisations based in Germany, Federal Foreign Office, Germany.
