04.12.2014 | Universität Bonn: Powering Agriculture – Challenges for an energy smart food system

Gastvortrag in englischer Sprache von Laura Jakobeit und Karl Moosmann (GIZ) im Rahmen der „ARTS Seminar Series“ (Agricultural Sciences and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics – Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bonn)

About 30 per cent of the energy used worldwide goes into the production and processing of food from field to table. The vast majority of it comes from fossil fuels, being responsible for some 20 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. The world’s population continues growing, and with it the need for food as well as for energy to produce it. At the same time millions of farmers and processors in developing countries and emerging economies lack access to clean energy technologies. Against this background representatives of the global GIZ project ‘Powering Agriculture: Sustainable Energy for Food’ will depict the challenges and potential solutions to an energy smart food system.
