ZEF organizes a screening of two remarkable short films from and about Morocco, made by the Moroccan film makers Younes Belghazi and Hamza Mahfoudi.

You can watch the films “BASTA – The film that was never made” and “475: When Marriage becomes Punishment” (produced by collective Guerrilla Cinema) at ZEF on Thursday July 17, 2014 at 5.30 p.m. in downstairs right conference room. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with both directors, who will be visiting Germany.

Background information:

“BASTA – The film that was never made” was shot illegally and documents censorship and state propaganda in Morocco as well as the challenge to produce independent films in the country (see trailer at: http://vimeo.com/60768186). The documentary film “475: When Marriage becomes Punishment” was also shot without permission and was financed by crowd funding. The film tells the story of Amina Filali, a 16-year-old girl who committed suicide in 2012 after having been forced to marry her rapist (see trailer at: http://vimeo.com/49994943).The directors Younes Belghazi and Hamza Mahfoudi Both are highly motivated and politically committed film makers and producers from Morocco. Two of the initiators of the February 20 Movement and Co-founder of Guerrilla Cinema, they fight with other activists for the freedom of speech and against corruption, state censorship and the high rate of illiteracy in their country.
