10.06.2013 | Bonn Dialogues: 13th Bonn Dialogues event "Climate change: non-economic loss and damage"

The panel discussion will focus on the following questions:

  • What is non‐economic loss and damage, and what are some of the challenges of recognizing losses that do not fit neatly into economic analysis?
  • Why are non‐economic losses relevant to discussions of climate change?
  • What is the current evidence for the social and cultural losses and damages related to climate change and what are the signals when such losses happen?
  • What impacts do societies experience?
  • What would it mean for countries to address non‐economic losses and damage associated with climate change – what kinds of experience have we had in the past with managing those kinds of losses to culture, language, identity, social values, etc.?
  • What steps might be taken to better incorporate non‐economic factors such as values, social norms and culture into thinking about managing the negative impacts of climate change?
