25-26.09.2012 | GIZ: Conference: “Culture. Market. Development. Stimuli from the Creative Industry for International Cooperation”(26 Jul 2012) | By Redaktion | Category: Events, GIZ
This autumn the cultural and creative industries, worldwide one of the most dynamic economic sectors, are in the focus of the conference series “Culture and Development”:
Culture. Market. Development.
Stimuli from the Creative Industry for International Cooperation
The cultural and creative industries (CCI) form part of one of the most dynamic economic branches worldwide. Meanwhile, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) trade of creative goods and services amounting to 592 bn US dollars accounts for nearly 3.7% of world trade. Also during the financial crisis the CCIs proved to be extremely crisis resistant compared to the classic industrial branches.
Are the creative industries then a job engine which guarantees many people a steady income even under difficult economic conditions? Can their potential also be used in international cooperation? Statistics suggest so. Especially in regard to giving access to international markets for goods and services from the developing countries CCIs are at the forefront: approximately 43 per cent of exports from partner countries originate from the creative industries. However, which social, economic and political conditions have to be established in order to tap the potential of CCIs for sustainable development? Cultural and Creative Industries in a global context is the topic of this year’s conference of the Bonn series of conferences “Culture and Development”.
This conference is being developed by the working group “Culture and Development” (German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Deutsche Welle, Goethe Institute, Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa)) and will be implemented by GIZ as the leading organization.
